Blink Charging UK has secured a new contract with North Herts Council to install 18 public electric vehicle (EV) charging hubs across the county. The initiative aims to expand access to EV infrastructure, particularly for residents without off-street parking, and is part of a broader push to support the UK’s transition to electric mobility.
The charging points will be installed at street-side locations near residential areas, though specific models have not been disclosed. Blink’s portfolio includes AC chargers such as the Series 7 and Series 8 units, which offer up to 19.2 kW per port and are suitable for overnight charging. While the company also provides higher-capacity DC fast chargers, such as the 40 kW Series 9 and larger commercial units up to 360 kW, these are not expected to be deployed at the planned street-level sites.
“This agreement with North Hertfordshire further expands our EV charging network in the region,” said Alex Calnan, Managing Director of Blink Charging UK. “It also solidifies Blink Charging UK’s position as a key player in sustainable transport infrastructure in North Hertfordshire while further reinforcing our overall commitment to supporting the UK’s transition to electric mobility.”
Ian Fullstone, Director for Place at North Herts Council, added: “We want to ensure residents are able to access EV chargers, so locations were chosen that are close to large numbers of homes that do not have off-street parking. This initiative is a key part of our sustainability efforts and will contribute to the district’s target of being net zero by 2040.”
The project is expected to bring the total number of public EV charging stations in Hertfordshire to just under 1,000, reinforcing local infrastructure as EV adoption continues to rise.
