German software provider Tronity has partnered with Mercedes-Benz to streamline reimbursement of home charging costs for electric company cars, as new regulations in Germany require precise accounting of electricity usage. Under the agreement, Tronity’s Fleet solution will be integrated into Mercedes-Benz’s fleet offering and made available to business customers in Germany. The move comes after the expiration of a tax-free flat-rate reimbursement scheme at the end of 2025, which allowed employers to compensate employees up to €70 per month without detailed tracking. Since January 2026, reimbursement must be based on exact kilowatt-hour consumption, increasing administrative complexity for companies managing electric…
Italian commercial vehicle manufacturer Iveco has deployed an electric version of its eDaily van equipped with inductive charging technology on a test section of the A35 motorway in northern Italy, as part of a pilot project exploring wireless charging for electric vehicles. The vehicle, fitted with Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer (DWPT) technology, is capable of charging both while driving and when stationary. It is being used by motorway concessionaire Brebemi to transport staff along the A35, which connects Brescia, Bergamo, and Milan. Repurposed Nissan LEAF Batteries Used in 300 kWh Energy Storage System at Port of Vigo
Nissan Motor is supporting the deployment of a battery energy storage system using repurposed batteries from the Nissan LEAF at the Port of Vigo. The system, called Green Charge Flex and developed by Little Electric Energy, uses 12 Nissan LEAF 30 kWh battery packs to form a 300 kWh energy storage system designed to support electric vehicle charging. According to the companies, the system will supply four chargers capable of delivering up to 240 kW DC ultra-fast charging as well as 22 kW AC charging. The storage system is intended to increase charging capacity in locations where grid infrastructure may…
Azienda Trasporti Messina has taken delivery of 29 electric buses from Iveco Bus, further expanding the electrification of its public transport fleet in the Sicilian city of Messina. The latest additions increase the number of battery-electric buses operated by the municipal transport company to 97 units, representing about 42% of its total fleet of 232 buses. The newly delivered vehicles include 18 standard 12-metre buses and 11 shorter buses measuring 9.5 metres. All vehicles are designed primarily for depot charging via cable connection, while the 12-metre buses are also equipped with pantograph systems that enable opportunity charging. Iveco Bus is…
Rome will introduce a new access fee for electric vehicles entering its historic centre starting July 1, 2026, ending the largely free access previously granted to battery-electric cars in the city’s restricted traffic zone. Under the new policy, drivers of battery-electric vehicles will be required to purchase an annual permit costing €1,000 to enter the ZTL (Zona a Traffico Limitato). The charge remains lower than the €2,016 annual permit for internal combustion engine vehicles, while some drivers may qualify for a reduced €500 rate. City officials say the measure reflects the rapid growth in electric vehicles and increasing pressure on…
A newly formed Italian club dedicated exclusively to owners of electric Porsche vehicles has held its first group outing, bringing together more than 130 participants and dozens of battery-powered sports cars. The Registro Italiano E-motion, founded in May at the Porsche Experience Centre in Franciacorta, describes itself as the world’s first Porsche club focused solely on electric models. The initiative is open to drivers of the Taycan and the electric Macan. Geely’s premium electric vehicle brand Zeekr has officially launched in Italy, appointing Jameel Motors Italia as its local distribution partner, while deliveries have already begun in Germany following the opening of orders late last year. In Italy, Zeekr will offer four models — the Zeekr 001 shooting brake, the compact Zeekr X SUV, the mid-size Zeekr 7X SUV and the recently introduced Zeekr 7GT electric estate — mirroring the lineup available in other European markets. Orders are now open, with retail outlets and customer deliveries scheduled to begin in spring 2026. Jameel Motors Italia, which already distributes other Geely-affiliated brands,…
Lamborghini has scrapped plans to launch its first fully electric vehicle, cancelling the Lanzador model that had been scheduled for a 2028 debut and instead pivoting toward plug-in hybrid technology across its lineup. Chief Executive Stephan Winkelmann told The Times that pursuing battery-electric vehicles could become an “expensive hobby” for the Italian supercar maker, which is owned by Germany’s Audi. The decision means Lamborghini will introduce a new plug-in hybrid in place of the Lanzador, with the company aiming for an entirely plug-in hybrid portfolio by 2030. Winkelmann said the brand intends to retain internal combustion engines for as long…
Renault is evaluating plans to manufacture future compact battery-electric vehicles at its Palencia plant in Spain, a move that would mark a significant expansion of EV production beyond its traditional base in France. Chief Executive François Provost confirmed the review following the company’s 2025 financial results, saying the site north of Valladolid could play a role in the group’s medium-term electrification strategy. The factory currently produces plug-in hybrid versions of the Austral, Espace and Rafale models and has operated since 1978. Until now, Renault has concentrated most electric vehicle production within its ElectriCity network in northern France, which includes plants…
The European Commission’s plan to introduce a new vehicle category for small battery-electric cars could prompt Volkswagen Group brands Audi and Škoda to accelerate development of entry-level electric models, according to media reports. The proposed category, designated M1E, would apply to passenger cars under 4.20 meters in length and is part of the Commission’s broader “Automotive Package” unveiled in December. The initiative aims to stimulate demand for affordable electric vehicles while providing regulatory flexibility on fleet emissions targets. Spanish publication La Tribuna de Automoción reported that the policy shift is reviving previously shelved plans within Volkswagen Group for additional models…
Dutch Fleet Drivers Demand at Least 400 km Range for Next Electric Company Car, BMW Study Finds
A study commissioned by BMW among 655 leasing drivers and fleet customers in the Netherlands indicates that a driving range of at least 400 kilometres has become the baseline expectation for electric company cars, with many respondents seeking even greater capability. “When asked how much range their next electric lease car should have, almost everyone in this group said at least 400 km. A third of them want more than 500 km,” BMW reported. The automaker said respondents cited the need to reduce charging frequency, maintain parity with conventional vehicles, and retain flexibility for work-related travel and vacations. See also:…
Swiss Canton’s New Tax Rules Leave Many Electric Car Owners Paying More Than Petrol Drivers
The Swiss canton of St Gallen has introduced a revised motor vehicle tax that in many cases imposes higher charges on electric vehicles than on comparable petrol cars, prompting criticism from drivers and political groups who say the reform undermines climate objectives. Under the new bonus-malus system, which took effect on Jan. 1, 2026, authorities calculate the levy based partly on vehicle weight and engine output. While the framework is intended to reward efficient models and penalise inefficient ones in a “technology-neutral” manner, the methodology has led to higher base taxes for many battery-electric vehicles because their heavy battery packs…
