Generac Launches EV Home Chargers and Expands Power Generation Offerings

Generac, the leading manufacturer of home backup generators, has announced the launch of its EV home chargers.

Founded in 1959, Generac has a long history of providing power generation equipment, electrical storage systems, and other power products, and is considered the eighth largest generator company in the world according to Insider Monkey.

The Wisconsin-based company’s Level 2 EV charger, which features a 48A /11.5kW output and J1772 connector, can fully charge an electric vehicle in four to six hours.

This new product will be available for purchase through home improvement retailers, wholesalers, hardware stores, and can also be installed in homes through the assistance of Generac’s dealers. In addition to its EV charger, Generac also offers household battery storage and solar systems, and acquired smart thermostat company Ecobee in November 2021.

However, a recent class action lawsuit has been filed against Generac by the California Ironworkers Field Pension Trust, who alleges that the company concealed important metrics from investors regarding the health of its legacy generator offerings and a component defect in its solar energy system.

The Generac EV charger offers electric vehicle owners a reliable and easy-to-install home charger from one of the most respected names in residential power. Key features include:

  • 48A / 11.5kW
  • Capable of charging a car battery in as little as four to six hours
  • J1772 connector is out-of-the-box compatible with nearly all EVs on the market today
  • NEMA-4 enclosure makes the unit rated for both indoor and outdoor installation.
