Polestar has reportedly concluded production of the Polestar 2 in China after more than 200,000 units were built, according to Norwegian automotive publications Motor.no and TV2 Broom. The reports come as the automaker prepares a redesigned successor to the electric fastback, scheduled to arrive in early 2027.
Motor.no reported that Polestar’s Norwegian website no longer accepts new factory orders for the current model. Customers are instead directed to vehicles available from existing inventory.
The website displays the message: “The selected configuration is not available for factory order. Compare your configuration with ready-for-delivery cars.”
TV2 Broom separately reported that the final Polestar 2 vehicles have left the production line in China, bringing total production to just over 200,000 units. Polestar has not been reported to have issued a separate formal announcement confirming the end of production.
Polestar 2 Production History
Polestar unveiled the Polestar 2 in 2019, with customer deliveries beginning in the summer of 2020. The model remained the company’s primary volume vehicle until the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 joined the lineup in 2024.
In Norway, 16,716 Polestar 2 vehicles have been delivered since the model’s introduction, according to the figures provided. This places it 14th among passenger vehicles by deliveries over the same period.
Next-Generation Model Planned for 2027
Polestar has previously outlined plans for a new generation of the Polestar 2. In a February announcement, the company said it intended to introduce four new vehicles over three years, including a completely redesigned successor to the electric fastback.
Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller said:
“Polestar 2 is the foundation of our brand, with over 190,000 cars sold and an enthusiastic community of customers.”
The next-generation Polestar 2 is scheduled to arrive in early 2027. The company has not provided further details about its specifications, design or production arrangements in the information cited here.
Current Model Availability
The reported end of production in China does not necessarily mean the current Polestar 2 will immediately become unavailable in all markets. Existing inventory may continue to be offered, depending on local stock and ordering arrangements.
The transition to the next generation is expected to take place as Polestar continues to develop its broader vehicle lineup. Further information about the current model’s production status and the successor’s launch is expected from the company.
