Ford has introduced a new Trail package for the 2027 Mustang Mach-E, adding light off-road enhancements to the electric SUV’s entry-level Select all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant. The automaker is also making its 88-kWh extended-range battery standard across most of the lineup, replacing the previous 73-kWh standard-range pack.
The Trail package offers an alternative to the more performance-focused Mustang Mach-E Rally, giving buyers additional ground clearance and rugged styling without moving to the higher-end model. The package costs $2,295 on top of the Select AWD trim.
Trail Package Adds Raised Suspension and New Tires
The Trail package is available exclusively on the Select AWD model. It includes new springs and dampers that raise the front suspension by 0.4 inch and the rear by 0.6 inch.
Ford has also equipped the package with the steering rack used in the Mustang Mach-E Rally, along with Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires and gray 19-inch turbine-style wheels. These changes are intended to provide greater versatility on uneven surfaces while retaining the Mach-E’s everyday road usability.
Other additions include a 400-watt inverter with 120-volt outlets in the rear passenger and cargo areas, a logo on the centre armrest and a blacked-out lower front fascia inspired by the Rally. Optional exterior graphics are also available.
The package provides a less expensive alternative for buyers seeking some of the Rally’s equipment and styling without opting for that model’s more specialised performance configuration.
2027 Mustang Mach-E Pricing
The 2027 Mustang Mach-E Select starts at $42,735 with rear-wheel drive (RWD), compared with $40,535 for the equivalent 2026 model. The Select AWD starts at $45,735.
Adding the $2,295 Trail package brings the Select AWD’s price to $48,030.
| Model or configuration | Starting price |
|---|---|
| 2027 Mustang Mach-E Select RWD | $42,735 |
| 2027 Mustang Mach-E Select AWD | $45,735 |
| Select AWD with Trail package | $48,030 |
| Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT | $48,175 |
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT, another electric crossover with equipment aimed at more rugged driving, starts at $48,175, placing it close to the Mach-E Select AWD with the Trail package.
Larger Battery Becomes Standard
Ford is discontinuing the 73-kWh standard-range battery for the 2027 model year. The 88-kWh extended-range pack, previously an option, will now be standard across the lineup except for the GT and Rally, which retain their 91-kWh battery packs.
The change increases the standard battery capacity available on most versions of the electric SUV. Ford has not yet published official driving-range figures for the 2027 models, but the company indicates that the lightest rear-wheel-drive versions could achieve up to 320 miles on a charge.
Actual EPA-estimated range figures for the new model year remain pending.
Revised AWD Motor Helps Offset Battery Costs
Ford has also introduced a new front electric motor for all-wheel-drive models. The motor is less expensive to manufacture while delivering the same power as the outgoing unit, according to the automaker.
The cost reduction is intended to help offset the expense of equipping more vehicles with the larger 88-kWh battery. The changes combine a battery-capacity upgrade with revisions to the vehicle’s powertrain hardware.
The Mustang Mach-E’s existing GT and Rally variants remain at the top of the range with their 91-kWh battery packs, while the new Trail package broadens the Select trim’s appeal to buyers seeking additional capability for unpaved roads.
Orders Open for the 2027 Model Year
Ford has opened ordering for the 2027 Mustang Mach-E. Deliveries of vehicles equipped with the Trail package are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
The model-year updates focus on expanding equipment availability and improving the value proposition of the lineup, with a new intermediate option for buyers who want more rugged features without moving to the specialised Rally variant.
