Xpeng is preparing to launch its first hybrid vehicle in the fourth quarter, following the regulatory filing of the extended-range version of its X9 multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).
The extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variant appeared in the latest catalog from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), which is open for public comment from Aug. 9 to 15. Inclusion in the catalog marks the final stage before the model can enter the Chinese market.

The seven-seat X9 EREV, to be manufactured at Xpeng’s Guangzhou plant, measures 5,316 mm in length—slightly longer than the all-electric version introduced earlier this year. It is equipped with a 1.5-liter engine from Harbin Dongan Auto Engine serving as a range extender, paired with lithium iron phosphate batteries supplied by CALB. The system delivers a maximum engine output of 110 kW.
The company has conducted extensive durability and performance trials, involving over 1,000 test vehicles and spanning more than 800 days across 20 countries and 330 cities. In total, the fleet has covered over 20 million kilometers, simulating a wide variety of driving conditions to ensure global market readiness.

Xpeng previously revealed its Kunpeng Super Electric System, designed to offer up to 1,400 km of combined range and about 430 km on pure battery power. Visual details from recent company materials suggest the X9 EREV could achieve an electric-only range of about 450 km.
The X9, the automaker’s first MPV, entered the Chinese market in January, with prices for the all-electric version ranging from RMB 359,800 ($50,100) to RMB 419,800. The company has announced plans to bring the model to Europe in the second half of this year.
