Xpeng has unveiled images of its refreshed 2025 G9 SUV, marking the latest step in the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker’s product overhaul. The update follows recent announcements of the new G7 and the revised G6, which is set for an official launch next week.
Describing the 2025 G9 as an “AI flagship SUV with pinnacle technology,” Xpeng said the model aims to redefine the mobility experience. The G9 was initially launched in September 2022 but faced criticism over its complex trim structure, leading to a streamlined and more affordable 2024 version introduced last September.

Xpeng chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng reflected on the G9’s early struggles, calling it a “good car that got held up” by the company. However, he highlighted the model’s pioneering features, including its full-scenario intelligent assisted driving system, 800-volt ultra-fast charging, and dual-chamber air suspension—technology typically found in higher-end models.

The updated G9, listed in China’s regulatory filings since December, maintains its existing dimensions and will be available in single- and dual-motor configurations.
The single-motor version delivers 258 kW of peak power, while the dual-motor variant adds a 165-kW front motor. Notably, the filing suggests the G9 is shifting away from LiDAR-based smart driving technology, following a similar move in the updated G6.

The SUV is also central to Xpeng’s strategic partnership with Volkswagen, which announced a $700 million investment in Xpeng last year, with plans to develop new models based on the G9 platform. He said the 2025 G9 refines 66 key user experience features and integrates Xpeng’s latest smart driving and vehicle architecture advancements.
“As the flagship model that carries our latest smart technology and strongest vehicle electrical and electronic architecture, it infuses elegance and passion into smart driving, ultimate handling, and comfort features,” He said.
