Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng has signed a distribution agreement with Bahrain’s largest automotive group, Ebrahim K. Kanoo, marking its official entry into the Bahraini market and furthering its ambition to expand across the Gulf region.
The agreement, announced on Thursday, will see Xpeng launch its G6 and G9 SUVs, as well as the X9 MPV, in Bahrain in the second half of 2025. The company will leverage Kanoo’s established sales and service network, which commands nearly 40 percent of the Bahraini auto market, to deliver what it described as a “revolutionary smart mobility experience” to local consumers.

“The Gulf region is a strategically important market in the Middle East, with huge potential for the development of new energy vehicles,” Xpeng said in a statement. The company highlighted its aim to achieve full coverage of all six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries—United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain—by 2025.
Xpeng has already launched in the UAE and is scheduled to begin sales in Qatar during the second quarter. In September 2024, the company named Pioneer Motors, part of Qatar’s Almana Group, as its exclusive distributor. Though plans to sell the G6, G9, and P7 sedan in Qatar by the end of 2024 have reportedly been delayed, the company is proceeding with regional rollout plans.

As part of its broader globalization strategy, Xpeng currently operates in over 30 markets and aims to more than double that figure to 60 countries and regions this year. It has set a long-term goal of deriving 50 percent of its sales from overseas markets within the next decade. Last month, Xpeng began pre-sales of its G6 and X9 in Indonesia and announced plans to start localized production there in late 2025.
