Xpeng is preparing to introduce at least five extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) models, including sedans and SUVs, as the Chinese automaker broadens its lineup beyond battery electric vehicles (BEVs), local media outlet 36kr reported on Wednesday.
The company’s first EREV model will be based on the X9 multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and is set to enter mass production in the second half of this year, according to the report. Future EREV models will be developed across Xpeng’s E, F, and H platforms, with launches expected in 2026 and 2027. A source cited by 36kr said that existing models like the P7 sedan and G6 SUV will also gain EREV variants.

Xpeng confirmed its EREV strategy last November when it unveiled the Kunpeng extended-range system, which promises a combined range of up to 1,400 km and a battery range of up to 430 km. The system supports 5C fast charging, enabling a 10%-80% charge in 12 minutes, equivalent to roughly 1 km of range per second.
The shift comes as China’s EREV market has gained traction, with rivals such as Li Auto, Aito, and Leapmotor seeing strong demand for hybrid models. Xpeng previously denied plans to enter the segment but has since adjusted its strategy. The company now plans to introduce multiple new models featuring both BEV and EREV powertrains, with deliveries starting in the second half of 2025.

By the end of 2026, Xpeng aims to cover a price range of RMB 100,000 ($13,770) to RMB 500,000, spanning compact to large vehicles. The company also plans to launch new or updated models every quarter this year as it seeks to strengthen its market presence.
