Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng is set to unveil its new G7 mid-size SUV on Wednesday evening, a model it describes as the company’s most advanced “AI car” to date, featuring L3-level computing capabilities and a design that balances high-tech innovation with practical space for families.
Chairman He Xiaopeng highlighted the G7’s position as a smart SUV that combines “hardcore technology with spacious comfort,” noting its futuristic appearance, flowing silhouette, and focus on user-centric features. “This is a rare intelligent SUV that prioritizes both innovation and lifestyle,” He said in a statement.

Positioned as a mid-size vehicle, the G7 measures 4,892 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2,890 mm, giving it a more conventional SUV stance compared with the sloping designs of the Tesla Model Y and Xpeng’s G6. The more upright layout is aimed at maximizing interior space, particularly for rear passengers, and caters to family-oriented buyers.
Key exterior features include a black lower trim, privacy glass for rear windows, and a prominent rear spoiler. The vehicle also includes hidden door handles and a panoramic sunroof with likely heat-rejection coating. The interior follows a minimalist aesthetic, with media leaks revealing the absence of a traditional instrument cluster.
The G7’s technological highlight is its debut of the Chasing Light Panorama AR-HUD, developed in partnership with Huawei. The 87-inch augmented reality heads-up display overlays navigational and safety information directly into the driver’s line of sight. The system supports eight driving scenarios, from junctions to curves, and offers real-time alerts for lane changes, pedestrians, and adverse weather conditions.

The AR-HUD uses Huawei’s optical systems paired with Xpeng’s proprietary imaging modules and software engine, delivering up to 12,000 nits of brightness and a contrast ratio of 1800:1. It also features lane-level guidance and dynamic visual cues, including a virtual “light carpet” that adapts to obstacles and road gradients.
Under the hood, the G7 shares its powertrain with the Xpeng G6, featuring a 218 kW electric motor and a lithium iron phosphate battery pack from CALB. While official range figures have yet to be released, the model is expected to emphasize energy efficiency.
The G7 is also the first vehicle to be equipped with Xpeng’s self-developed Turing AI chip, which the company describes as a high-performance system capable of supporting large models for autonomous driving and smart cockpit functions.

Expected to be priced around 250,000 yuan ($36,000), the G7 will compete in China’s increasingly crowded mid-size SUV segment, alongside the Tesla Model Y, Xiaomi SU7, and Zeekr 7X. Pre-sales are scheduled to begin on June 11, with deliveries targeted for the third quarter of 2025.
