XPeng Aeroht, a subsidiary of XPeng, has made significant progress in their pursuit of regulatory approval with the granting of a conditional flight permit for the X2 flying car.

This milestone makes the X2 the first manned eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) product to receive such permission from the Civil Aviation Administration of China’s Central and Southern Regional Administration.

The X2 has already completed over 3,000 test flights since its maiden flight in June 2021 and has now been granted a licensed flight certificate by Chinese civil aviation regulators.

This allows the X2 to operate under specific conditions and XPeng Aeroht can continue to perform manned flight tests to gather data for future research and development and mass production.

XPeng Aeroht is committed to further testing and improving the X2, with the goal of eventually bringing this innovative flying car to market.

XPeng Aeroht is a technology firm specializing in flying cars, established in 2013 and now majority-owned by XPeng and its CEO, He Xiaopeng. In 2021, the company unveiled the X1, a vertical takeoff and landing car, at the Shanghai Auto Show.

Later in July, Mr. He announced the X2, the fifth-gen flying vehicle. On October 24, 2021, XPeng Aeroht introduced the X3, its sixth-gen flying car, capable of both driving and flying. The company aims to bring the X3 to mass production by 2024, with a target price of under RMB 1 million ($150,000).

To support its flying car development, XPeng Aeroht has a trial plant in operation since July 25, 2022, located in Guangzhou’s Panyu district, with two production workshops, a power test center, and a flying car test center.
