Xiaomi has taken another step toward expanding its automotive lineup after four models from its new Sky Nomad sport utility vehicle (SUV) series appeared in the latest vehicle filing published by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
The regulatory documents include four extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) models: the N90 Max, N90 Max Camping Edition, N70 and N70 Max. The filing marks the first public disclosure of technical specifications for the Sky Nomad family through China’s vehicle approval process.
The submission comes one day after Xiaomi introduced Sky Nomad as its second vehicle series following the SU7 and YU7 lineup, positioning the new range as a family of intelligent, spacious SUVs.
Four EREV Models Target Different Customer Needs
All four models use a 1.5-liter range-extender engine supplied by Harbin Dongan Automotive Engine. The engine has a displacement of 1,499 cubic centimeters and delivers a maximum net output of 112 kilowatts.
The flagship N90 Max measures 5,285 millimeters long, 1,998 mm wide and 1,825 mm high, with a wheelbase of 3,080 mm. It will be offered in both five-seat and seven-seat configurations.
The SUV features a dual-motor electric drivetrain with motors producing 210 kW and 100 kW, respectively. Energy is supplied by a ternary lithium-ion battery manufactured by CALB, which also produces the battery pack.
The N90 Max Camping Edition introduces additional equipment designed for outdoor activities. Classified in the filing as a special-purpose “cultural life service vehicle,” it includes a pop-up roof, rooftop sleeping platform, side storage cabinets and a connection point for an external side tent.
Optional equipment includes an in-car projection system and a removable table designed for outdoor recreation, mobile work or group activities.
According to the filing, the pop-up roof may only be operated while the vehicle is stationary and off public roads.
Smaller N70 Models Offer Alternative Configurations
The N70 and N70 Max share a shorter body measuring 4,960 millimeters in length with a 2,950 mm wheelbase. Both are configured as five-seat SUVs.
The standard N70 uses a single electric motor rated at 210 kW and is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery supplied by Sunwoda.
The N70 Max adopts the same dual-motor configuration as the larger N90 Max and uses a ternary lithium-ion battery produced by CALB.
All four models are built on Xiaomi’s Kunlun vehicle architecture, which features a flat-floor cabin layout intended to maximize interior space.
Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s founder, chairman and chief executive officer, said the platform had undergone three and a half years of development with the goal of creating what he described as a vehicle designed to function as a “living space.”
“The series took 3.5 years to refine, aiming to create a ‘living space.'”
New SUV Lineup Supports Growth Strategy
The Sky Nomad series forms part of Xiaomi’s broader expansion plans for 2026 as the company seeks to increase vehicle deliveries.
Local media have reported that the first Sky Nomad model could start at around 200,000 yuan, placing it in competition with extended-range SUVs offered by Li Auto and Huawei-backed Aito.
According to previously released sales data, Xiaomi EV delivered 185,055 vehicles during the first half of the year. The company has set a full-year delivery target of 550,000 vehicles for 2026, meaning deliveries would need to accelerate significantly during the second half to achieve that goal.
Vehicles included in MIIT’s public filing process typically move closer to commercial launch after completing regulatory approval, although Xiaomi has not announced an official launch schedule for the Sky Nomad series.
