Xiaomi plans to bring its new electric sport utility vehicle, the YU7, to market in July, CEO Lei Jun said in a post on Weibo on Thursday, marking the company’s second entry into the EV sector as it expands beyond smartphones into electric mobility.
The company introduced the YU7 SUV at a product showcase on Thursday, though it did not disclose pricing details or open pre-orders. “We will not be announcing the official price or start pre-orders during this pre-launch event,” Lei said in the post.

Positioned as a luxury performance SUV, the YU7 is being framed as a competitor to Tesla’s (TSLA.O) popular Model Y, which currently starts at 263,500 yuan ($36,579) in China. Xiaomi EV, the company’s automotive division, shared new images of the vehicle on Weibo, featuring a titanium-colored exterior and a preview of its cabin design.
The YU7 measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width and 1,600 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm, according to a regulatory filing. In comparison, Tesla’s Model Y has a slightly smaller footprint, with a 2,890 mm wheelbase and a height of 1,624 mm.

Xiaomi said the YU7 is designed for customers seeking “a large space and an advanced luxury experience.” The vehicle will feature the company’s newly introduced HyperVision system, which aims to offer a more intuitive and visual user interaction interface.
The YU7 follows the launch of Xiaomi’s debut EV, the SU7 sedan, and represents the firm’s ambition to carve out a share in China’s competitive electric SUV segment. In addition to unveiling the YU7, Xiaomi also introduced its self-developed XringO1 mobile chip and a new flagship smartphone at the event.
