XCharge North America and Energy Plus plan to develop a large battery-backed electric vehicle charging depot in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, aiming to address rising demand for fast charging in dense urban areas while easing pressure on the local power grid.
The site, scheduled to begin operations in the second quarter of 2026, will operate under Energy Plus’ Eplug brand. It will feature 44 GridLink charging units supplied by XCharge North America, providing a total of 9.46 megawatt-hours of on-site energy storage and fast-charging capability across 88 parking spaces. Once completed, it is expected to rank among the largest battery-backed EV charging depots in the United States.

The Williamsburg depot is designed to serve both individual drivers and fleet operators that require rapid charging turnaround and high system uptime. Energy Plus said the project is intended as a template for similar urban charging facilities in other major U.S. cities as vehicle electrification accelerates.
By pairing high-power charging infrastructure with on-site battery storage, the companies aim to reduce peak-load demand on the electricity grid. Energy can be stored during off-peak hours and discharged when demand rises, a setup intended to support grid resilience and help manage energy costs. The companies said GridLink’s bidirectional energy flow and decentralised storage design are suited for neighbourhoods facing sustained peak-hour strain.

“Helping launch the East Coast’s largest battery-backed fast-charging depot is a defining moment for XCharge NA and for the EV industry,” said Aatish Patel, co-founder and president of XCharge North America, adding that the project demonstrates how public and private partners can accelerate the transition to cleaner urban energy systems.
Energy Plus, a New York-based energy-efficiency and electrification contractor, will develop and operate the site. Its Eplug concept is designed to integrate charging infrastructure into existing urban environments with a compact footprint and predictable operations.

“This is what American-made electrification looks like in practice,” said Moshe Lefkowitz, founder of Energy Plus, citing the use of locally built infrastructure and labour. He said the project would form the foundation of a broader Eplug network aimed at supporting urban electrification needs.
