Workhorse Group Inc. has expanded its W56 Class 5/6 all-electric step van platform with the addition of the Utilimaster Aeromaster body, offering a zero-emission solution that maintains the familiar design and functionality widely used in last-mile delivery fleets.

The new configuration aims to simplify fleet electrification by integrating a trusted, industry-standard walk-in body onto Workhorse’s purpose-built electric chassis.

The Utilimaster Aeromaster body brings lightweight aluminum construction, modular interior configurations, and a low step-in height tailored for delivery, service, and specialty applications. The design supports flexible upfit options, including shelving, lighting, and HVAC systems, with continued support through Utilimaster’s national parts and service network.

According to Amanda Pickett, Director of Marketing, North America at Aebi Schmidt, “The W56 is a high-quality, purpose-built EV platform, and adding our well-known, industry-standard body allows fleets to combine the trusted durability and versatility of Utilimaster with the benefits of zero tailpipe emissions.”

Workhorse said the partnership helps large fleet operators transition to electric power without altering their operational setup. “By offering the Utilimaster body on our W56 chassis, Workhorse can deliver the performance and reliability of its all-electric step van in the traditional form factor fleet operators already know and trust,” said Kelly Kiger, Vice President of Sales at Workhorse.

Manufactured at the company’s Union City, Indiana facility, the W56 electric step van is designed for demanding last-mile operations. It delivers up to 150 miles of range per charge, features up to 1,200 cubic feet of cargo capacity, and includes advanced safety technologies and integrated telematics to support fleet optimization.
