Volvo Trucks is expanding its ‘Volvo Open Charge’ service to include a booking function for electric truck charging, allowing hauliers to reserve charging slots in advance. The feature is being piloted by Swedish customers Arla and DFDS as the company aims to enhance the reliability of charging for heavy-duty electric vehicles.
The service provides access to verified charging stations and integrates payment at partner locations. Volvo Trucks said the initiative is designed to support transport companies in managing their electric fleets more effectively.

“We are working to make it easier for transport companies and hauliers to make the transition to emission-free transport, and this requires good services that support them in their daily operations,” said Ebba Bergbom Wallin, Head of Electromobility at Volvo Trucks Sweden. “With the possibility to book your charging time, we enable higher availability for hauliers’ electric trucks.”
Currently, the Volvo Open Charge network includes 41 charging stations, but the company plans to establish one of Sweden’s largest public charging networks powered by renewable energy. Volvo Trucks began tracking charging stations in Sweden in 2023 and has opened its service to vehicles from all manufacturers.
