Volvo Trucks has reaffirmed its dominance in the European heavy-duty electric truck market, reporting sales of 1,970 units over 16 tonnes in 2024. The Swedish truckmaker retains a commanding 47% market share, matching its 2023 performance, when it delivered 1,977 electric trucks.
This represents a significant lead over its 2022 position, when it held a 32.3% share of the segment. Volvo has identified Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Switzerland as key markets driving its electric truck sales this year.

According to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), a total of 3,328 heavy-duty electric and hybrid trucks were registered across the European Union in 2024, marking a 29% increase. Including the EFTA states and the UK, registrations reached 4,291 units, up 31.5% from the previous year.
However, since ACEA figures include hybrid trucks while Volvo reports solely on battery-electric vehicles (BEVs), the figures are not directly comparable. Despite this, Volvo’s substantial market share underscores its leadership in the transition to zero-emission freight transport.

In addition to its European success, Volvo Trucks has maintained a strong foothold in North America, where it is expected to hold more than 40% of the heavy-duty electric truck market in 2024. Since launching series production of electric trucks in 2019, Volvo has delivered over 4,800 electric trucks worldwide.
“We have a very strong electric truck portfolio for regional, city, and construction transport,” said Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks. “Our next electric truck to the market will be running longer distances of up to 600 kilometers on one single charge.” The company plans to unveil this long-haul electric truck later this year, a move that could further strengthen its position in the growing market.

In the heavy-duty segment, Renault Trucks achieved a market share of 24.2% and is targeting over 2,000 electric vehicle deliveries in 2025. The company also reported a 36% increase in electric truck orders compared to the previous year.
