Volkswagen has unveiled the ID.ERA 9X, a new large SUV developed specifically for the Chinese market, marking the longest sport utility vehicle the German automaker has ever produced.
The ID.ERA 9X appeared in a regulatory catalog released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in January, confirming key specifications ahead of its market launch. The model is produced by SAIC Volkswagen and represents the production version of the ID.ERA concept first shown in 2025. ID.ERA is the series name, while 9X denotes the vehicle itself.

The SUV is powered by an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) system, combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine rated at 105 kW with a 220 kW electric motor. According to the filing, the vehicle has a top speed of 200 km/h. Energy storage is provided by a 65.2 kWh battery pack, delivering an electric-only driving range of about 400 kilometres.
In terms of size, the ID.ERA 9X measures 5,207 mm in length, 1,997 mm in width and 1,810 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,070 mm and a curb weight of around 2,600 kg. These dimensions make it the longest SUV ever offered under the Volkswagen brand.

Design details in the filing and accompanying images show a streamlined exterior with a closed front grille, black roof and pillars, flush door handles and aerodynamic wheels. A LiDAR sensor is integrated above the windshield just below the roofline, indicating support for advanced driver assistance systems.
Volkswagen has not yet disclosed pricing details for the ID.ERA 9X. Market launch in China is expected in the latter part of the third quarter, as the company continues to expand its locally tailored lineup in the world’s largest automotive market.
