VinFast has signed an agreement to supply 1,500 electric vehicles to Vietnamese taxi operator Taxi Huong Giang, as the transport company accelerates plans to fully electrify its fleet.

The agreement was signed on May 11 and will support Taxi Huong Giang’s transition away from internal combustion engine vehicles.

The company already operates more than 500 electric vehicles and said the latest purchase will increase its fleet of zero-emission vehicles to more than 2,000 units.

Taxi Huong Giang has been operating VinFast EVs in the former Bac Giang province since 2024 and now plans to expand electric taxi operations across Bac Ninh Province.

The vehicles may also operate through Green SM, Vietnam’s largest ride-hailing platform by market share.

Green SM said Taxi Huong Giang would become one of its five largest transport partners in Vietnam after deployment of the new EV fleet.

The mobility platform is currently working with nearly 100 transportation businesses and 11 bus operators to support fleet electrification initiatives.

Under the partnership model, Taxi Huong Giang plans to allow drivers to gradually acquire ownership of the vehicles they operate, potentially through lease-to-own arrangements.

The companies did not disclose the exact mix of vehicle models included in the order.

However, images from the signing ceremony indicated the fleet could include models such as the VinFast Minio Green, VinFast Herio Green, VinFast Limo Green and VinFast EC Van.

According to VinFast, the vehicles offer NEDC driving ranges of between 175 kilometers and 450 kilometers depending on model and battery configuration.

Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, chairwoman and general director of Taxi Huong Giang, said the cooperation would deepen the company’s role in Vietnam’s growing electric mobility sector.

“Through cooperation with Green SM, we are gradually participating more deeply in the green mobility ecosystem in Vietnam and bringing better values to society,” Thuy said.

Tran Le Phuong, deputy general director at GSM Global, said the project demonstrated the scalability of electric transportation services in Vietnam.

“The cooperation with Taxi Huong Giang shows that the purely electric vehicle transportation model is ready to be deployed on a large scale with many flexible forms,” Phuong said.

The agreement highlights growing momentum behind fleet electrification in Vietnam, where domestic EV manufacturers and ride-hailing operators are increasingly collaborating to expand electric mobility services.
