Toyota has unveiled an all-electric version of its Hilux pickup truck in Europe for the first time, marking a significant step in the electrification of one of the world’s best-selling pickup models.

The Hilux BEV made its European debut at the Brussels Motor Show 2026, where Toyota showcased the ninth-generation pickup in battery-electric form. The launch comes more than five decades after the Hilux was first introduced, during which time Toyota has sold more than 27 million units globally, primarily outside North America.

For the first time, the Hilux will be offered with both all-electric and hybrid powertrains. While the electric version retains the model’s body-on-frame construction, Toyota said the battery-electric setup delivers a distinct driving experience compared with its internal combustion counterparts.

The Hilux BEV is powered by a 59.2 kWh lithium-ion battery, providing a WLTP-rated range of up to 257 km, with city driving extending the range to as much as 380 km. The pickup is equipped with an all-wheel-drive system producing a combined 473 Nm of torque, supporting a payload capacity of 715 kg and towing capability of up to 1.6 tonnes.

Toyota has also introduced electric power steering on the Hilux BEV, a first for the model, aimed at reducing kickback during off-road driving. In addition, the company developed a new Multi-Terrain Select System for its electric vehicles, designed to optimise braking and torque delivery across different surfaces.

Off-road specifications remain in line with other Hilux variants, including ground clearance of 212 mm and a water-wading depth of 700 mm. Inside, the electric pickup adopts Toyota’s latest interior design, featuring dual 12.3-inch displays for the driver and infotainment system.
