German electric boat propulsion specialist Torqeedo announced the availability of its selected outboard models through Yamaha’s dealer network in eight European countries. Starting this month, Torqeedo’s electric propulsion systems will be offered in the UK, Ireland, Switzerland, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Spain, and Portugal.

The models include the lightweight Torqeedo Travel Ultralight series (equivalent to 1-3 horsepower), the Travel family (2-5 hp equivalent) for boats up to two tonnes, and the more powerful Cruise models (6-25 hp equivalent), designed for vessels weighing up to twelve tonnes.

“We are delighted to broaden our presence through Yamaha’s extensive and reliable dealer network. This partnership not only enhances our ability to introduce our innovative drive technologies to additional dealers, but also leverages local expertise and deep market knowledge,” said Timm Burmeister, Torqeedo’s Director of Global Business Development.

This collaboration reflects Torqeedo’s ongoing efforts to expand its footprint in the growing electric maritime propulsion market. Founded in Starnberg in 2005, the company has developed electric and hybrid systems ranging from 0.5 to 200 kW for both commercial and leisure applications.

Cologne-based engine manufacturer Deutz acquired Torqeedo in 2017. Despite reports of financial challenges in 2023, Deutz initiated a sale process, which culminated in Yamaha acquiring Torqeedo in April 2024. Since the acquisition, Torqeedo has launched a solar-powered luxury houseboat and contributed to the electrification of Berlin’s historic 138-year-old ferry.

With its integration into Yamaha’s network, Torqeedo aims to accelerate the adoption of sustainable maritime technologies across Europe, leveraging Yamaha’s established market reach and expertise.
