Tesla has restructured its wheel and tire protection insurance, shifting from an annual fee to a monthly subscription across its lineup, raising costs for owners seeking coverage against common road hazards.

The automaker previously offered a Tire Protection Plan for the Model Y at $55 per year, covering damage from potholes and punctures but excluding cosmetic damage, theft, and vandalism. Tesla has now rolled out the Wheel and Tire Protection Plan (WTPP), priced monthly, with unlimited repairs included. Tire or wheel replacements carry a $25 deductible per incident.

Pricing varies by model: $12 per month for the Model 3, $16 for the Model 3 Performance and Model Y, $20 for the Model Y Performance, Model S, Model X, and Cybertruck, and $25 for the Model S Plaid and Model X Plaid. Eligibility requires purchase within 30 days of delivery, and Tesla may request a wheel and tire inspection before activation.

Tesla maintains exclusions from the original plan, stating that “the Wheel and Tire Protection Plan does not cover cosmetic damages, theft, vandalism or previous damages that predates the subscription date of the plan.” Curb rash coverage is subject to Service Center discretion.

Separately, Tesla will also allow buyers to apply referral codes after placing an order, a feature long requested by customers. The change could help customers who missed entering a referral code or experienced system errors at the time of purchase.
