Tesla has recalled more than 7,000 Model Y vehicles in Australia due to a safety concern with the driver-side window automatic protection system.
The recall affects 7,301 examples of the 2025 Model Y, covering all variants of the SUV. Authorities noted that the system may fail to detect obstructions, potentially causing the window to close with excessive force, increasing the risk of injury.
Tesla confirmed that vehicles already running software version 2025.26.6 or later are not affected. Owners can check their software version through the infotainment display by navigating to Controls > Software.
The automaker plans to address the problem through an over-the-air software update, allowing affected vehicles to be corrected remotely without visiting a service center. The company will notify impacted owners directly in writing about the recall.
While this is the first recall in Australia related to Model Y side windows, similar issues have prompted larger recalls elsewhere. In 2022, Tesla recalled more than one million vehicles in the United States, including the Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y, due to side windows potentially closing with excessive force or failing to retract after detecting obstructions, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said at the time.
