Tesla has initiated the release of its latest software update for its vehicles, as per its routine practice of delivering new features and enhancements. Among the notable additions is an automatic hazard light function, aimed at improving visibility in the event of an accident.

Tesla demonstrated the new hazard lights feature on its North America X account through a video posted on Tuesday. This feature is part of the software update 2023.32.7, which is now being deployed to Tesla vehicles, bringing several improvements.

With this update, Tesla’s hazard lights are designed to activate automatically if an airbag deploys during an accident. Notably, these automatic hazard lights will flash more rapidly compared to their manual activation. Tesla introduced this feature with the intention of enhancing visibility during emergency situations. The company has confirmed that the update is currently rolling out to U.S. Model 3 and Model Y units, as well as to 2020 and newer versions of the Model S and Model X.

The introduction of automatic hazard lights upon airbag deployment serves as an important safety enhancement, providing a visual warning to other drivers when an accident has occurred. The increased flashing rate of these lights further accentuates their effectiveness in alerting surrounding traffic.

Tesla regularly deploys software updates that encompass a range of improvements and new features, with a strong emphasis on safety. While some enhancements aim to enhance the overall driver experience and vehicle performance, many are directed toward enhancing safety features.

Previous Tesla software updates, such as 2023.26 released over the summer, included features like automatic adjustment of HVAC system fan speed during phone calls and an automatic navigation feature offering additional details such as estimated time of arrival, anticipated battery status upon arrival, and destination photos.
