Tesla is approaching a significant milestone with expected regulatory approval of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system for use on public roads in Europe by the end of 2025.
To coincide with this development, the company has extended its free FSD transfer promotion to European customers. This allows buyers of new Model Y, Model 3, and refreshed Model S or Model X vehicles to carry over their previously purchased FSD option to their new cars without additional cost.
This offer, valid through September 30, 2025, aligns with a similar program in the U.S. where owners have been able to transfer FSD between vehicles since early 2024.
European adoption has lagged due to regulatory hurdles, but Tesla’s latest software updates have improved the system’s ability to navigate complex urban settings, prompting positive feedback from regulators in countries such as the Netherlands.
To qualify for the transfer program, customers must have placed an order after mid-July 2025, take delivery by the end of September, and maintain ownership of their current FSD-equipped vehicle for at least 72 hours following delivery of the new one. Both vehicles need to be registered under the same Tesla account.
Tesla’s expansion of the FSD transfer offer in Europe is expected to alleviate concerns among customers who have waited for the functionality to become available locally. The move also aims to boost sales of Tesla’s refreshed Model Y amid recent declines in European market demand, which have been influenced by broader market conditions and company controversies earlier in the year.
