Tata Motors on Thursday launched its flagship electric SUV, the Harrier.ev, as part of its strategy to expand its zero-emission portfolio in India. Marketed as an off-road-capable lifestyle vehicle, the Harrier.ev features dual battery options, all-wheel drive capability, and several segment-first technologies.
Based on a modified version of the internal combustion engine (ICE) Harrier, the electric variant is underpinned by a reworked platform derived from Jaguar Land Rover’s D8 architecture. The company made key changes during the conversion process, including the adoption of a rear-wheel-drive layout and the use of a multi-link rear suspension system with Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD).
The Harrier.ev will be offered in rear-wheel and all-wheel drive versions. The RWD model uses a 175 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor, while the AWD variant adds a 116 kW induction motor on the front axle. With boost mode enabled, the AWD model delivers a combined output of 291 kW and 504 Nm of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 6.3 seconds, according to the company.
The electric SUV features off-road angles of 25.3º (approach), 16.6º (breakover), and 26.4º (departure), and supports gradients up to 47%. Six terrain modes are available, and a transparent chassis view system offers real-time visuals beneath the vehicle. “The Harrier.ev is the only model with AWD capability in the Tata Motors line-up, and the company is pitching it as a perfect fit for customers who enjoy adventures off the beaten path,” the company said.
Battery choices include 65 kWh and 75 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) packs. The 75 kWh battery delivers an MIDC-certified range of up to 627 km in the RWD configuration, with an expected real-world range between 480 and 505 km. Charging options include a 120 kW DC fast charger, capable of charging from 20% to 80% in about 25 minutes, and a 7.2 kW AC charger, which takes approximately 10.7 hours for a full charge. The vehicle also supports bi-directional charging functions such as vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V).
Inside, the Harrier.ev distinguishes itself with high-end tech features, including a 14.5-inch Samsung Neo QLED mini LED infotainment screen and a 5.1-channel JBL sound system with Dolby Atmos. Other features include a digital key with UWB technology, Auto and Remote Park Assist, a digital rear-view mirror with built-in dashcam, and an India-first in-car UPI-based payment interface.
Tata Motors has priced the Harrier.ev starting at 2.149 million rupees ($25,700) as part of an introductory offer, with bookings set to begin on July 2. To bolster consumer confidence, the company is offering a lifetime, unlimited-kilometre battery warranty for privately registered vehicles.
