StoreDot, an Israeli developer of high-speed charging battery technology for electric vehicles, has opened its first research facility in the United States in Irvine, California.
The new lab will focus on accelerating the company’s development of semi-solid battery technology and materials research. The location was selected to take advantage of the abundance of talent on the West Coast and to strengthen ties with American EV manufacturers. Dr. David Lee, StoreDot’s Chief Science Officer, will lead the US team, working in conjunction with the company’s R&D headquarters in Israel.
This move will allow the company to scale its operations globally and stay on track for its 100inX technology roadmap. This roadmap aims to deliver battery cells with a 100-mile range in five minutes of charge by 2024, three minutes by 2028, and two minutes by 2032.
StoreDot has been receiving positive feedback from several car manufacturers after providing EV cells with a capacity of 300 Wh/kg for testing. The cells boast a world-record consecutive fast-charging rate of over 1,000 cycles and have demonstrated a silicon-dominant chemistry with no battery degradation. The company has a wide range of strategic global partners and investors in the battery industry, including Daimler, Ola Electric, Polestar, VinFast, and Volvo Cars.
