Skywell has suspended new vehicle sales in the United Kingdom after its local importer, Innovation Automotive, ceased trading at the end of June.
The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer said it is now seeking a new distribution partner for the UK market, while arrangements for warranty support, servicing and spare parts continue to be finalised.
Importer exits UK market
Innovation Automotive ended operations at the close of June after serving as Skywell’s UK importer since the brand entered the market in 2024.
According to the former importer, all remaining Skywell vehicles in stock were purchased and registered before the business closed.
Skywell currently offers a single model in the UK, the BE11 electric SUV.
David Clark, General Manager of Innovation Automotive, said the decision reflected the increasing investment required to compete in Britain’s highly competitive electric vehicle market.
“The UK is one of the most competitive new car markets in Europe, with a strong focus on electrification – and with such an influx of new Chinese brands making their appearance in the UK – it requires continuous, significant investment from the OEM or the appointed distributor to remain competitive.”
Clark emphasised that the closure was unrelated to Skywell’s products or long-term ambitions.
“The closure of Innovation Automotive is in no way a reflection upon Skywell, who are now seeking an alternative distributor for the UK market.”
Warranty and parts arrangements underway
Innovation Automotive said it continues to hold a substantial inventory of spare parts and is working to transfer the stock to a future distributor.
The company also expects warranty administration responsibilities to be handed over to a new organisation once distribution arrangements are completed.
According to vehicle registration data cited by the former importer, 127 Skywell vehicles are currently registered in the UK, including 64 registrations completed in June during the company’s wind-down period.
Before sales were suspended, Skywell operated through a network of 16 dealerships across the country.
The manufacturer had previously announced plans to broaden its UK electric vehicle lineup beyond the BE11, although those expansion plans have been placed on hold until a new importer and distributor is appointed.
