Rivian is recalling 17,260 units of its R1T pickup and R1S SUV due to a headlight defect that may prevent the low beams from illuminating in cold temperatures, the company said.
The issue, traced to incorrectly configured parts installed during manufacturing, affects vehicles built between April 29, 2024, and February 3, 2025.

According to Rivian, the malfunction occurs when the vehicle starts in cold weather, potentially leaving one or both low beams inactive. Affected vehicles display a warning message: “Low beams might not be working. Service low beams soon.” While no accidents have been reported, the defect poses a safety risk and brings the vehicles out of compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 108, which regulates headlamp performance.
The automaker confirmed that the fix requires replacing the headlamp control module, a repair that cannot be addressed through an over-the-air (OTA) update.

Owners will need to visit a Rivian service center or arrange for a mobile technician. The company operates around 60 service centers across North America and aims to expand that network to over 100 by the end of 2025.
This is not Rivian’s first headlight-related recall. In June 2024, the company issued a separate recall for certain R1 models due to headlamp alignment errors, which could result in inadequate road illumination.
