Porsche will stop production of the combustion-engine Porsche Macan at its Leipzig plant in the summer of 2026, although deliveries in some markets may continue into 2027 as demand for the gasoline-powered model remains strong.

The timeline was confirmed by Jochen Breckner, chief financial officer of Porsche, during the company’s earnings call this week.

“Production will be stopped in summer 2026 and during the last month that we have, we [will] produce as much as we can,” Breckner said. “Of course, our capacity is one factor there, but that’s not limited. Supplier parts are the other issue.”

Porsche has manufactured the all-electric Macan alongside the internal combustion version at its Leipzig facility since 2024. The battery-electric model, built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture, had originally been intended to fully replace the combustion-engine Macan as the company’s bestselling vehicle.

However, demand for the internal combustion model has remained resilient in markets where it is still available, even as sales of the electric Macan continue to grow.

The shift reflects broader challenges facing Porsche’s electrification strategy. Initial plans under former chief executive Oliver Blume did not include a successor for the combustion-engine Macan, as the company pursued ambitious electric vehicle targets.

In January 2026, Blume acknowledged the company had underestimated changing market conditions and customer demand when it decided to transition the Macan exclusively to electric power.

Speaking to German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Blume said Porsche’s 2019 decision to phase out the petrol-powered Macan in favor of a fully electric replacement had been a strategic miscalculation.

As a result, Porsche is now developing a new Macan generation featuring petrol and hybrid powertrains. However, the replacement model is not expected to debut for another two years, leaving the battery-electric Macan as the only new version available in the near term.

The transition may be particularly significant in the United States, where Porsche has already faced challenges linked to import tariffs and its reliance on European production facilities.

According to automotive publication Carscoops, Porsche sold 8,079 Macan Electric vehicles in the U.S. during the first quarter of 2026, compared with 10,130 combustion-engine Macan units over the same period.

Porsche has continued expanding its electric SUV lineup despite the reassessment of its EV strategy. In October 2025, the company introduced the Porsche Macan GTS, a performance-focused electric variant offering up to 420 kW of overboost power and 955 Nm of torque.

The Macan GTS combines Porsche’s GTS performance branding with battery-electric technology aimed at driving enthusiasts.
