Pony.ai, an autonomous car startup announced that it is working with the SAIC AI Lab to explore and advance driverless mobility technology.
Together with the SAIC AI Lab, Pony.ai has launched a concept vehicle based on SAIC’s Marvel R and will build a fleet of autonomous vehicles with Pony.ai’s L4 driverless solution.
The concept car uses 17 integrated automotive-grade sensors to create a 360-degree visual range spanning 200 meters. This capability is expected to eliminate blind spots around vehicles, according to Pony.ai.
From the inside, the concept car has a next-generation smart cockpit with a foldable steering wheel that is expected to provide a significantly interactive human-machine experience.
Not only the development of autonomous technology, the two companies will also cooperate in the field of vehicle chassis and smart cockpit
The concept vehicle was unveiled at an event today at the Shanghai Auto Expo Park, offering guests a self-driving shuttle service.
Also at the event was the inauguration of the Shanghai Driverless Demo Zone, part of the National Intelligent Vehicle Pilot in Shanghai.
The planned driverless demo zone will cover 3.8 kilometers of semi-enclosed roads inside the Shanghai Auto Expo Park. The first 1.2 kilometers have already been built and operational, and the remaining 2.6 kilometers are expected to be completed by the end of this year, according to Pony.ai.
