Nio, the Shanghai-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, celebrated the delivery of its 600,000th production vehicle on October 11 at its Nanxiang experience center in Shanghai. The milestone was achieved just four months after the company hit the 500,000th vehicle mark. The 600,000th vehicle, an ES8 SUV, was delivered to Sun Wei, Chief Digital Officer of SF Express, marking a significant milestone for Nio’s flagship SUV model.
The ES8 is Sun’s first electric vehicle, and he praised Nio’s battery swap technology, comparing its efficiency and reliability to the logistics services of SF Express. The ES8 was Nio’s first production vehicle, introduced in 2017, and remains the most expensive model in Nio’s lineup with a starting price of RMB 498,000 ($70,460). Nio’s announcement of the milestone comes as the company continues to grow its premium all-electric vehicle deliveries globally.
Nio delivered around 1,960 vehicles in the first 11 days of October, adding to its September figures where the company recorded 21,181 total deliveries. The 600,000th milestone only includes the main Nio brand vehicles and excludes Onvo, Nio’s sub-brand launched in September, which saw 832 deliveries in the same month. September marked the fifth consecutive month of Nio exceeding 20,000 deliveries.
The ES8 has evolved since its release, with significant upgrades introduced in 2019 and 2022. The latest version, launched in early 2024, is built on Nio’s NT 2.0 platform and is positioned as a premium electric SUV with advanced features. Nio continues to expand its lineup, reinforcing its presence in the competitive EV market.
Nio’s growth trajectory, from its founding in 2014 to its latest delivery milestone, underscores the company’s strong momentum in the electric vehicle sector, especially with its focus on innovative battery technology and premium models.
