Mercedes-Benz USA has issued a safety recall for 169 EQB electric vehicles after identifying a potential fire risk linked to high-voltage battery cells, the company said in a regulatory filing.
The recall affects certain 2022 and 2023 model-year EQB 250, EQB 300 4MATIC and EQB 350 4MATIC vehicles. According to the automaker, the affected vehicles may contain battery cells that are susceptible to internal short circuits under specific conditions, potentially leading to thermal events.
Mercedes-Benz said the issue stems from production variations at battery supplier Farasis Energy’s manufacturing facility, combined with external influences such as mechanical stress or electrical current fluctuations. Vehicles equipped with the affected batteries may be vulnerable when charged to high state-of-charge levels.
As an interim safety measure, owners have been advised to limit battery charging to 80% until a software-based remedy is available. The company said dealers will install updated battery management system software free of charge to reduce the risk and improve battery stability.
The recall follows an earlier campaign after Mercedes-Benz determined that some vehicles received incorrect software updates during prior service actions. Although those updates appeared successful, further review found the vehicles remained at risk without additional corrective measures.
The affected population includes 21 EQB 350 4MATIC units, 100 EQB 300 4MATIC units and 48 EQB 250 vehicles produced between December 13, 2021, and January 23, 2024. Mercedes-Benz said vehicles manufactured after July 31, 2024, are not affected due to improvements in supplier production processes.
The automaker said it will notify dealers beginning December 23, 2025, with owner notification letters expected to be mailed by January 16, 2026. The recall is listed under National Highway Traffic Safety Administration campaign number 25V894.
