Maserati has thrown its hat into the ring of electric sports cars with the introduction of the GranCabrio Folgore, a stunning electric convertible that aims to captivate enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the next-generation Tesla Roadster.
The GranCabrio Folgore stays true to its heritage while embracing an aerodynamically optimized design. The car boasts a new front bumper, a redesigned grille, and eye-catching staggered 20- and 21-inch wheels, offering a blend of style and efficiency with optional low rolling resistance tires.
The highlight of the GranCabrio Folgore is its power retractable soft top, which can be lowered in just 14 seconds at speeds of up to 31 mph (50 km/h). Customers can choose from five roof colors ā Nero, Blue Marine, Titan Grey, Greige, and Granata ā and opt for an additional wind stopper to reduce wind buffeting.
Inside, the cabin exudes a high-tech ambiance, featuring a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment system, and an 8.8-inch comfort display. A heated, flat-bottom steering wheel with brushed aluminum paddle shifters adds a sporty touch. Other notable features include a standard neck warmer, a Sonus faber audio system, and a digital clock with three different skins, as well as accelerator, compass, G-force meter, and stopwatch displays.
The interior offers extensive customization options and can be equipped with sustainable materials like Econyl, a regenerated nylon made from recycled fishing nets and carpets.
Powering the GranCabrio Folgore is a 92.5 kWh battery pack that drives a tri-motor powertrain, providing all-wheel drive and a combined output of 818 hp (610 kW / 829 PS) and 996 lb-ft (1,350 Nm) of torque. This setup enables the GranCabrio to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 2.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 mph (290 km/h). The model is expected to offer a WLTP range of between 260 and 278 miles (419 and 447 km).
Charging the battery is made convenient with 270 kW DC fast charging capability, allowing the car to gain up to 62 miles (100 km) of range in as little as five minutes. For a 20-80% charge, the battery can be replenished in just 18 minutes.
The GranCabrio Folgore offers four driving modes ā GT, Sport, Corsa, and Max Range. GT provides a traditional grand tourismo driving experience, while Corsa unleashes the full power of the electric motors for an exhilarating ride.
The GranCabrio Folgore is expected to arrive in the United States next year, with pricing likely to reflect the premium nature of the ICE-powered model, which starts at $203,000.
