Korean technology firm LG CNS has partnered with the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) to launch a series of smart city initiatives at the Brooklyn Army Terminal (BAT), marking a major step in the city’s digital and sustainable transformation efforts. The collaboration brings advanced electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, a new mobility-focused mobile app, and plans for energy storage systems (ESS) to the terminal site.
Through a joint effort with Boston-based startup Matcha, LG CNS has installed state-of-the-art EV chargers at BAT, which will remain operational through December 2025. These chargers are part of a broader plan to promote sustainable transportation across New York City. The company is also developing a mobile app that will offer users real-time data on EV charger availability and urban mobility patterns.
In addition to EV infrastructure, LG CNS intends to deploy energy storage systems to help stabilize the local electricity grid and support a transition to renewable energy sources. The company is part of the latest cohort in NYCEDC’s Pilots at BAT program and plans to extend its efforts to the MADE Bush Terminal in Sunset Park, a waterfront site dedicated to sustainable development.
This partnership follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed in October 2023 between LG CNS and Mayor Eric Adams, encouraging Korean investment in New York City. With a background in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and smart engineering, LG CNS is positioned to contribute significantly to New York’s urban modernization, as city leaders pursue initiatives focused on resiliency, mobility, and energy efficiency.
