IVECO Bus has delivered the first 13 of 19 new E-WAY electric buses to the Malaga Transport Company (EMT), further expanding the Spanish city’s fleet of zero-emission vehicles. The new additions will join 80 existing electric buses in service, with six more expected soon, reinforcing Malaga’s commitment to sustainable urban mobility.
Designed for maneuverability on the city’s narrow streets, the 9.5-meter-long and 2.33-meter-wide buses feature a modular NMC battery system tailored to meet EMT’s charging and passenger capacity requirements. Each E-WAY bus can accommodate up to 55 passengers, including 16 seated, and offers accessible low-floor entry with both manual and automatic ramps. Other onboard features include interior surveillance, an integrated rearview camera system, and spaces for passengers with reduced mobility.
IVECO Bus will continue to support the fleet with a suite of services, including preventive maintenance, driver training, remote diagnostics, and digital fleet management via the IVECO ON connected platform. The total investment for the project is approximately €12 million, partially funded (37%) through the European Union’s Next Generation EU recovery funds.
“We are proud to deliver these thirteen new E-Way buses to EMT Malaga, thus strengthening our partnership towards the complete electrification of urban transport,” said Fabrizio Toscano, Sales Manager of IVECO BUS Iberica. “These vehicles demonstrate our commitment to ecological and high-performance solutions, aimed at improving the wellbeing of citizens while respecting the environment.”
Malaga’s first electric buses, provided by MAN, began service in 2023 and were integrated into routes across all city districts—suggesting a similar deployment strategy may be used for the new IVECO models.
