Hyundai unveiled its first locally-produced electric SUV, the Creta Electric, in India on Friday at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo. With a starting price of ₹17.99 lakh (approximately $20,000), the Creta EV offers a range of up to 473 kilometers (294 miles) and marks Hyundai’s latest push to solidify its presence in the growing Indian EV market.

The Creta, a longstanding success since its introduction in 2015, accounted for over 30% of Hyundai India’s domestic sales in 2024, contributing significantly to a record 605,433 vehicle sales in the country last year. Including exports, Hyundai India’s total sales reached 764,119 units. “Achieving highest-ever domestic sales three years in a row reflects customers’ preference for brand Hyundai as their trusted smart mobility solutions provider,” said Hyundai India COO Tarun Garg.

The Creta Electric is available in four trims—Executive, Smart, Premium, and Excellence—with prices ranging from ₹17.99 lakh to ₹23.50 lakh (approximately $27,200). Two battery options, 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh, deliver ranges of 390 km (242 miles) and 473 km (294 miles), respectively. The launch underscores Hyundai’s strategy to capitalize on the rising demand for electric vehicles in India, where it plans to introduce five new EVs by 2030, including three-wheeled electric vehicles.

While the Creta Electric will not be available in the U.S., Hyundai is expanding its global EV lineup with models like the 2025 Ioniq 5, featuring enhanced range and compatibility with Tesla Superchargers via an NACS port. The company also plans to introduce the EV9, its first three-row electric SUV, in the near future.
