Hyundai Germany has begun accepting orders for the Inster, a new small electric car, offering four trim levels: Select, Trend, Cross, and Prime. The base version starts at €23,900, while the larger battery variant is priced from €25,400.
The Inster comes with two battery options: a 42 kWh version, which powers a 71 kW electric drive, and a 49 kWh version, which offers a range of up to 370 kilometers according to the WLTP standard. The Select, Trend, and Prime variants will be available starting in early 2025, while the Cross variant, with its distinct off-road styling, will enter production at the end of the year.
The Inster is a compact vehicle, measuring 3.83 meters in length and 1.61 meters in width, providing between 280 and 351 liters of boot space. The larger battery variant offers a WLTP range of up to 370 kilometers, while the 42 kWh version provides a range of up to 327 kilometers. Charging times are competitive, with a fast-charging station providing 10-80% charge in about 30 minutes at up to 85 kW. For AC charging, all variants come with a standard three-phase 11 kW onboard charger.
However, the Inster does not come with a factory-installed battery heater, which could impact range and charging performance, especially in cold weather. Battery heating is available as an option for the Select, Trend, and Cross models, while the Prime variant includes it as standard, alongside a heat pump.
Standard features across all variants include a wide array of safety systems, such as Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Alert, and a reversing camera. The Inster also features the new EU-mandated intelligent traffic sign recognition system, which can be easily disabled if preferred. In Norway, where electric vehicles are exempt from VAT, the Inster is priced starting from approximately €21,100, with five trim levels available.
The Select trim includes a 10.3-inch digital cockpit, a 10.3-inch touchscreen navigation system, and features like automatic air conditioning and electric windows. Moving up to the Trend trim adds features like heated front seats, a sliding and folding rear bench, and front and rear parking assistance. The Cross variant, available only with the 49 kWh battery, features a rugged off-road look, with modifications to the bumpers and the option for exclusive ‘Amazonas Green Matte’ paint.
The top-of-the-line Prime trim, starting at €30,100, includes advanced safety features like a 360° camera and cross-traffic assist, as well as an efficiency package with battery heating and a heat pump.
