Volkswagen celebrates World Design Day by releasing an ID rendering. Pickup truck buzz. The manufacturer didn’t say much about the model, but noted “On the journey from idea to production, there have been many designs that have never been made like this.”
This truck concept is based on the ID concept. The 2017 Buzz has a unique rear end with an open body. That’s not the only change as the truck has shorter rear doors, a plastic body cover, and what looks like a footrest on the rear fender. We can also see aerodynamically optimized alloy wheels and a two-tone roof, which appears to have a removable interior.

On the way from an idea to production, there are a lot of unseen design drafts made â like this one:

This truck will probably share a powertrain with ID. The Buzz has an 82 kWh lithium-ion battery and a rear-mounted electric motor that produces 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 229 lb-ft (310 Nm) of torque. However, Volkswagen has confirmed “more battery capacity versions with varying power output levels are expected in 2023.”

While it’s still a concept, Volkswagen Group of America CEO Scott Keogh recently confirmed that the company is indeed planning an electric pickup. Nothing has been decided yet, but VW executives say the electric truck is an “opportunity” because “electric vehicles offer you something different” and customers seem open-minded about electric pickups too.
