Geely Auto’s sub-brand Geely Galaxy said on Friday it will officially launch its A7 plug-in hybrid sedan on August 8, marking its latest move to expand in the competitive Chinese hybrid vehicle market.
Described by the company as a “hybrid family sedan disruptor,” the Geely Galaxy A7 will be positioned as an affordable mid-to-large-sized sedan, with a starting price expected below RMB 100,000 ($13,960). “The A7 will bring more advanced hybrid technology to the mass market,” Geely Galaxy said in a post on Weibo.
The A7 is the first plug-in hybrid sedan based on Geely’s Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA), featuring dimensions of 4,918 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,845 mm. It will come with two battery pack options: an 8.5 kWh unit from CALB and an 18.4 kWh unit from CATL, enabling electric ranges of 70 km and 150 km, respectively. When fully fueled and charged, the A7 offers a combined range of up to 2,100 kilometers, according to the company.
Geely Galaxy began pre-sales for the A7 on July 11, initially offering five variants priced between RMB 103,800 and RMB 133,800. On July 18, the brand added two more affordable variants priced at RMB 97,800 and RMB 113,800. The lower-priced options come with a basic driver-assistance system, while higher trims feature the G-Pilot H3, part of Geely’s smart driving suite unveiled in March.
The A7 will compete with other plug-in hybrids such as the BYD Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i. Deutsche Bank analysts led by Wang Bin estimated earlier this month that the A7’s final starting price could be around RMB 90,000, with monthly sales potentially exceeding 10,000 units.
