GAC has partnered with Sinopec to launch a new retail model that allows customers to view, purchase and service vehicles directly at the energy company’s gas stations.
The initiative marks a new approach to automotive retailing in China as automakers seek alternative sales channels in an increasingly competitive market.
First Integrated Energy and Auto Service Station Opens
According to GAC, China’s first integrated “energy and auto” service station has opened in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province.
The facility combines vehicle display, sales, maintenance and fueling services within a single location.
The companies said the model is designed to improve access to automotive services in county-level and less-developed markets, where traditional dealership networks may be less extensive.
Leveraging Sinopec’s Network
GAC plans to utilize Sinopec’s extensive network of service stations and existing customer traffic to expand its market reach while potentially reducing customer acquisition costs.
The companies said the station will serve as a pilot project for a business model that could be replicated in other regions across China.
For Sinopec, the project represents its first integrated automotive retail and service station as the company expands beyond traditional fuel retailing.
Responding to Market Changes
The partnership comes as Chinese automakers continue searching for new ways to reach customers amid intense competition and evolving consumer purchasing behavior.
At the same time, energy companies are exploring new business opportunities as vehicle electrification gradually reshapes transportation energy demand.
GAC said the initiative forms part of its broader efforts to strengthen vehicle sales and customer engagement.
Broader Energy and Mobility Strategy
The launch also aligns with Sinopec’s strategy of transforming from a traditional fuel supplier into a broader integrated energy service provider.
The company has recently expanded its activities in electric vehicle charging, battery swapping and mobility-related services.
On the same day the GAC partnership was announced, Sinopec also disclosed a separate cooperation agreement with BYD to support the deployment of flash charging infrastructure across China.
The new station in Guangdong will provide both companies with an opportunity to evaluate whether integrating automotive sales and energy services can create a scalable model for future expansion.
