Ford Performance has released a teaser for a new high-performance version of the F-150 Lightning, set to compete at the 102nd running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The teaser image hints at a low and wide vehicle, possibly featuring a massive rear wing, leading to speculation that this could be the Supertruck teased by F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo last year.

While Ford has not provided additional details, it has confirmed that the vehicle will race as competitor No. 150. This move follows Ford’s record-breaking performance at last year’s event with the electric SuperVan 4.2, driven by Romain Dumas, which set a blistering time of 8:47.682, the fastest sprint in the Open Class.

The standard F-150 Lightning boasts impressive specs, with 580 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque. However, these numbers may not be sufficient for the demanding Pikes Peak course, especially considering the truck’s weight of 6,893 lbs in Platinum guise and its comfort-oriented handling.

To meet the challenges of Pikes Peak, Ford could potentially borrow the drivetrain from the Mustang Mach-E 1400, which produces 1,400 horsepower from seven electric motors. It’s also possible that the Supertruck will share components with the SuperVan 4.2, making it a custom creation distinct from the production F-150 Lightning.

Ford Performance’s preparation for the SuperVan 4.2 included special aerodynamic enhancements, such as a carbon fiber rear spoiler and front splitter, to enhance stability on the challenging course. Given Pikes Peak’s unforgiving nature, Ford will likely employ similar aerodynamic strategies for the F-150 Lightning Supertruck.

The unveiling of the new F-150 Lightning variant is expected in the coming months, with a reveal scheduled near June. Qualifying for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb will take place from June 18-20, followed by the main event on June 23, where the F-150 Lightning will take on the iconic hill climb.
