Ford’s NACS Connector for Tesla Superchargers in Final Testing Before Release

Ford is on the brink of releasing the North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector, allowing its electric vehicles to directly access Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network. This move follows Ford’s early adoption of Tesla’s open-source NACS, pledging to equip its EVs with ports to connect to the Supercharger network.

While new Ford vehicles will come standard with NACS ports and connectors next year, the company has collaborated with Tesla to provide complimentary Supercharger adapters to current owners of F-150 Lightning or Mustang Mach-E models. Ford had initially announced a spring 2024 release for these adapters, and it appears they are set to begin shipping as scheduled.

Jim Farley, CEO of Ford, personally tested the new Supercharger adapters and shared a picture of them, promising to provide more release information “very soon.” The NACS adapter from Ford resembles Tesla’s Magic Docks, which Tesla has been installing in new Supercharger stations to achieve CCS compatibility and secure federal grants for a nationwide EV charging infrastructure.

In the US, the Tesla app’s charging section now hints at the potential future offering of plug and charge functionality for CCS vehicles. Tesla is also reportedly filming an advertisement demonstrating the ease of accessing Superchargers with these adapters.
