Apple has introduced an update to Apple Maps EV Routing, allowing Ford Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning drivers to plan trips using Tesla Superchargers and other North American Charging Standard (NACS) stations via CarPlay, the automaker said on Monday.
The update comes after Ford began shipping CCS-to-NACS adapters last year, enabling its electric vehicle (EV) customers to charge at Tesla’s network.

Until now, Apple Maps EV Routing only directed Ford drivers to Combined Charging System (CCS) stations, even when a NACS charger could have been a more efficient option.

“Apple Maps EV Routing in CarPlay allows drivers to input their route and can view the estimated battery level they will have when they get to a destination, as well as suggested charging stations along the way if charging is needed,” Ford said in a blog post. “Now, with the Apple Maps EV Routing and NACS fast charger integration, the experience will be more seamless.”

To enable the feature, drivers must connect their iPhone to CarPlay, select NACS stations in Apple Maps settings, and enter a destination. The system will then estimate the vehicle’s state of charge upon arrival and, if necessary, route the driver to a compatible NACS fast charger.
The feature is available to iPhone users running iOS 17 or later and does not require a software update for Ford vehicles.
