Fire Cloak has been selected to continue supplying electric vehicle fire-containment blankets across the Formula E championship for the 2026 season.
The UK-based company said its fire blankets are designed specifically for incidents involving lithium-ion battery systems and will remain available for use throughout the all-electric racing series.
Focus on Battery Fire Safety
The blankets are intended to help contain fires associated with thermal runaway, a condition in which overheating battery cells trigger a chain reaction that can spread through a battery pack.
Fire Cloak said its product is among the first to receive certification under DIN SPEC 91489:2024-11, a standard developed for lithium-battery fire containment applications.
The certification provides a recognized performance benchmark for products designed to manage battery-related fire incidents.
Continued Use in Formula E
Formula E has incorporated battery safety measures as part of its operational framework due to the high-performance electric powertrains used throughout the championship.
The series features fully electric race cars powered by high-voltage battery systems operating under demanding racing conditions.
Fire Cloak’s containment blankets will continue to form part of the safety equipment available across the Formula E grid during the 2026 season.
Applications Beyond Motorsport
While motorsport remains a high-profile deployment environment, Fire Cloak said its products are also used in industries where lithium-ion batteries are increasingly common.
These include maritime operations, transportation and logistics, vehicle workshops, industrial facilities, and public infrastructure environments.
Growing adoption of electric vehicles, battery storage systems, and electrified equipment has increased interest in specialized fire-safety solutions designed to address battery-related incidents.
Expanding Battery Safety Market
As electrification continues across automotive, maritime, industrial, and energy sectors, demand for battery fire management technologies is expected to grow.
Products such as containment blankets are increasingly being considered as part of broader safety strategies intended to mitigate risks associated with lithium-ion battery systems.
The continued use of Fire Cloak’s blankets in Formula E highlights the growing focus on battery safety within high-performance electric mobility environments.
