SAIC Volkswagen has officially launched the ID. ERA 5S plug-in hybrid sedan in China, expanding its ID. ERA new energy vehicle lineup as the joint venture targets a highly competitive segment of the domestic market. The sedan is available in five variants, with official prices starting at 119,900 yuan ($17,680).
Limited-time incentives reduce the effective starting price to 89,900 yuan, while the top version is reduced from 149,900 yuan to 119,900 yuan.
ID. ERA 5S Launches Below Pre-Sale Price
The five ID. ERA 5S variants are priced at 119,900 yuan, 129,900 yuan, 139,900 yuan, 144,900 yuan and 149,900 yuan.
SAIC Volkswagen is offering temporary incentives that reduce each price by 30,000 yuan, bringing the respective transaction prices to 89,900 yuan, 99,900 yuan, 109,900 yuan, 114,900 yuan and 119,900 yuan.
The promotional package includes a 1,000-yuan deposit that can be applied as 5,000 yuan toward the final payment, along with trade-in subsidies.
The official launch price is also below the model’s initial pre-sale price of 115,900 yuan, which was announced when pre-sales began on August 11.
160 Km Electric Range
The ID. ERA 5S is the second vehicle in SAIC Volkswagen’s ID. ERA lineup and the first sedan in the series. It follows the ID. ERA 9X extended-range SUV.
The sedan measures 4,836 mm long, 1,880 mm wide and 1,505 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,766 mm. Its drag coefficient is 0.247.
The plug-in hybrid system combines a 1.5-liter engine producing up to 80 kW with an electric drive motor rated at up to 130 kW.
The vehicle has a claimed CLTC battery-electric range of 160 km and a combined range exceeding 2,000 km.
SAIC Volkswagen lists fuel consumption of 2.82 litres per 100 km with the battery depleted. The battery can charge from 30% to 80% in approximately 15 minutes.
Urban NOA Added to Volkswagen Sedan
The ID. ERA 5S is equipped with an 8.8-inch instrument display and a 15.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen as standard.
Its voice system was jointly developed with iFlytek.
SAIC Volkswagen said the sedan is the first Volkswagen-branded sedan globally to offer urban navigation-on-autopilot (NOA) capability.
The vehicle’s Xingyun assisted-driving system is based on a deeply customized version of Horizon Robotics’ HSD algorithm. It supports highway NOA, urban NOA, automated parking, valet parking and cross-floor memory parking.
ID. ERA Lineup Expands
SAIC Volkswagen displayed the ID. ERA 8X and ID. ERA 5X publicly for the first time at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show, bringing the number of ID. ERA models displayed at the event to four alongside the previously launched ID. ERA 9X.
The ID. ERA 5X is the first battery-electric model in the lineup and uses SAIC Volkswagen’s China Main Platform, or CMP.
The joint venture plans to launch seven new energy vehicle models during 2026.
The ID. ERA 9X was launched on April 25 and surpassed 10,000 deliveries within two months, providing the first commercial performance benchmark for the new lineup.
The ID. ERA 5S expands the range into the sedan segment with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, longer combined driving range and expanded driver-assistance capabilities.
