Falcon Buses will introduce its first fleet of battery-electric buses later this month, with 13 new vehicles set to begin operating on routes across Surrey as the operator advances its fleet electrification plans.
The new fleet consists of 13 Alexander Dennis Enviro200EV buses, which will initially serve Route 436 between Weybridge and Woking before expanding to Route 461 linking Kingston, Walton-on-Thames, Weybridge, Addlestone and St Peter’s Hospital later this summer.
Charging Infrastructure Supports Fleet Rollout
The 10.9-meter electric buses accommodate up to 37 seated passengers and feature accessible spaces, full air conditioning and heat pump systems designed to improve energy efficiency and battery performance.
The vehicles were funded through Surrey County Council and the UK Department for Transport’s ZEBRA 2 program.
To support operations, fleet electrification company VEV installed charging infrastructure at Falcon’s Byfleet depot, including a dedicated 1,500-kVA power supply, six 60-kW chargers and three 120-kW chargers.
Managing Director Richard Telling said the deployment marks an important step in the company’s decarbonization strategy.
“Introducing our first electric buses marks the beginning of a new chapter for the business and demonstrates our commitment to delivering cleaner, quieter and more sustainable transport for the communities we serve.”
Falcon Buses aims to transition to an entirely electric bus fleet by 2033.
Alexander Dennis Regional Sales Manager Mark Taylor said the Enviro200EV builds on the company’s established diesel platform.
“With the Enviro200EV, we have taken those same strengths and carried them forward into a zero-emission platform designed for the demands of daily service.”
