Onvo, a sub-brand launched by Nio to target the growing family SUV segment, has officially opened presales for its debut model—the Onvo L90, a full-size three-row electric crossover. Starting at 279,900 yuan (approx. $38,980), the L90 becomes even more competitive under Nio’s Battery as a Service (BaaS) program, which brings the starting price down to 193,900 yuan ($27,000) with a monthly battery rental of 899 yuan (approx. $125). This pricing strategy positions the L90 as a compelling choice in China’s increasingly competitive electric vehicle (EV) market.
The Onvo L90 stands out with its spacious and lightweight construction, measuring 5,145 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and 1,766 mm in height, with a long wheelbase of 3,110 mm. Despite being a full-size SUV with three rows of seating, it boasts a curb weight of just 2,250 kg for the RWD model—making it, according to Onvo, the lightest vehicle in its class.

The lightweight design is achieved in part through the use of a “72-in-1” die-cast aluminum alloy rear floor, which alone reduces the vehicle’s weight by 11.7 kg. For comparison, competing models such as the Geely Group’s Lynk & Co 900 and Nio’s own ES8 weigh 2,660 kg and 2,565 kg, respectively.
Designed with practicality and comfort in mind, the L90 offers both six-seat and seven-seat configurations. The six-seat version includes ventilation, heating, and massage functions for all seats, along with a three-zone climate control system. Interior quality is elevated by the use of microfiber-covered pillars and ceiling, a built-in refrigerator, a ceiling-mounted screen for rear passengers, and a prominent 17.2-inch 3K floating infotainment screen at the center. Cargo space is also generous, with a 240-liter front trunk—among the largest in the segment—and a 430-liter rear trunk, enabling both passenger comfort and utility.

Technically, the L90 is engineered around a next-generation 900V electrical system, enabling ultra-fast charging and efficiency. It is powered by a newly developed 85 kWh battery pack with an energy density of 193.2 Wh/kg, which is 26% higher than the industry average. The battery weighs 440 kg and offers a CLTC range of 570 to 605 km, depending on the drivetrain configuration. Importantly, the L90 supports Nio’s battery swap technology, enabling drivers to change battery packs within minutes at over 3,400 swap stations across China.
Performance-wise, the L90 delivers strong numbers. The RWD version is equipped with a 340 kW (456 hp) motor and achieves a 0–100 km/h acceleration in 5.9 seconds, while the AWD variant generates 440 kW (590 hp) and sprints to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds. Although it lacks roof-mounted LiDAR, the vehicle includes a 4D mm-wave radar with 48 channels and a detection range of up to 370 meters, providing robust driver assistance capabilities. Safety features include nine airbags and a full suite of active safety systems.

Onvo’s strategic emphasis on lightweight design, spaciousness, and premium features—combined with a smart pricing structure—underscores the brand’s goal of delivering a versatile electric SUV for Chinese families. The L90’s specifications suggest that Onvo is not just another EV startup but a serious contender in the mainstream family vehicle market. With presales now underway and deliveries scheduled to begin in early August, the L90 is expected to shape the competitive dynamics of China’s electric SUV segment in the months ahead.
