Dongfeng Motors is introducing Mengshi (which means “warrior” in mandarin) as a new brand, with two off-road-focused EV concepts set to enter production in 2023.

Some of you may have heard this name before, thanks to the Warrior M50 model, a Chinese “engineered Hummer” based on the Mengshi EQ2050 military truck.

According to the official presentation, the M logo stands for Military, Man, Marvelous, Mission, and Mengshi. The first concept from Mengshi is a large five-door SUV called the M-Terrain and M-Terrain Sport, then the second is a two-door pickup.

Both feature similar design proportions to the Hummer with off-road bumpers, angular surfaces, prominent fenders, roof racks and modern LED lighting units.

The interior features a digital instrument cluster, a large-diameter infotainment touchscreen, another screen integrated into the steering wheel, a storage compartment on the utilitarian dashboard, and futuristic-looking orange seats.

The concept is based on a new platform called MORA, which is compatible with both full electric (BEV) and range-extender (EREV) powertrains. The combined output of the “Mega Power” quad electric motor will produce over 1,000 hp (735 kW/1,014 PS) and 16,000 Nm (11,801 lb-ft) of torque, enabling speeds from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just within 4.2 seconds.

Mengshi did not reveal the specifications of the installed battery, but leaked documents suggest that it will have a capacity of 140 kWh, offering a range of up to 500 km (311 miles) on fully electric power.

Power will be transmitted to all four wheels via the M-ATS system consisting of a two-speed gearbox and three electronic differential locks.

Other highlights of the new architecture include steer-by-wire technology, rear-wheel steering, “crab walking” capability, nine driving modes, and of course an adjustable air suspension. This vehicle is reportedly capable of Level 3 self-driving.

Despite the sci-fi style of the concept that looks like a war car in the video game Halo, the Mengshi M-Terrain is close to production status, targeting a market launch in 2023 in China.

It’s not clear whether the model will make its way to global markets or not, but the English used in the presentation could highlight the potential availability for markets outside of China.
