BYD’s premium Denza brand is preparing a new N8 electric SUV with a battery capacity of up to 130.15 kWh and a claimed CLTC range of as much as 1,003 kilometres. The large SUV will also offer a powertrain producing up to 890 kW.

The specifications were detailed in certification information from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology after Denza first unveiled the new N8 in July. The model will be available with 105.792 kWh and 130.15 kWh battery packs.

Large Battery Drives Long CLTC Range

Depending on the configuration, the new N8 is certified for CLTC ranges of 800 km, 840 km, 970 km or up to 1,003 km.

The extended-wheelbase N8L, which measures 5.20 metres in length and has six seats, is certified for a range of up to 960 km.

The range figures are based on China’s CLTC testing procedure, which generally produces higher results than the European WLTP cycle. Denza has not yet disclosed WLTP figures for the new N8.

The large battery capacity is therefore a major factor behind the model’s claimed range, while its real-world efficiency remains to be established.

Three-Motor Version Produces 890 kW

Denza will offer the N8 with different electric powertrains. Entry-level configurations use electric motors rated at 320 kW and 370 kW.

The highest-output version uses three motors, including a 270 kW front motor and two 310 kW rear motors. Combined system output reaches 890 kW.

The N8 is also expected to use BYD’s Flash Charging technology. Denza says the system could charge the battery from 10% to 97% in as little as nine minutes.

N8 Grows to Full-Size SUV Dimensions

The new N8 measures 5.15 metres in length, making it approximately 26 centimetres longer than its predecessor.

The N8L stretches to 5.20 metres and uses a longer wheelbase configuration with six seats instead of the standard N8’s five-seat layout.

The vehicle therefore moves into a size category comparable with large premium SUVs such as the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS.

Denza Expands International Presence

Denza was originally established as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz. BYD subsequently took full control of the brand after Mercedes reduced its involvement and repositioned Denza as a premium vehicle marque.

The brand is now part of BYD’s international expansion strategy and has already entered Germany, where it has opened dedicated retail locations.

Denza Files Electric N8 SUV as It Expands EV Lineup

Denza sold 19,196 electric vehicles worldwide in July, an increase of 68.8% from the same month a year earlier.

BYD’s overseas expansion has also accelerated. The company exported 179,841 vehicles in July, up 124% year on year, with overseas sales accounting for 43% of total group sales.

European Launch Remains Unconfirmed

Denza has not yet confirmed whether the new N8 will be introduced in Europe or Germany, nor has it announced European pricing.

Existing N8 models in China start at approximately 300,000 yuan.

If the new electric N8 reaches Europe, its final WLTP range, real-world efficiency and charging performance will be important factors alongside its battery capacity and pricing.
